my dad has a year 2000 nissan frontier pickup truck and it is a small truck and it doesnt have a trailer hitch. the other day i say a 16' jon w/ a 6hp motor and it came on a trailer for $1,1000. i was gonna think about buying it but was curious if you could tow a small boat lke that without a hitch. how would you do that if you could? thanks.

Take a look at the back bumper of the pick up. If it has a hole drilled in the center you just need to get the correct size ball for the trailer and stick it in the hole. Worst case, you can get a bolt on receiver hitch for under $100 and a trailer light wiring kit and you are in business.

first off you can not tow without a hitch. you need some sort of ball hitch to tow a trailer. either a bumper hitch where the ball is mounted to the rear step bumper ( for that size boat that is ok) or a receiver style hitch calls II or III. the truck will be able to tow that boat with out a problem. if ist an auto trans do not, I say again do not tow in Over drive.

If the truck has a step bumper there should be a hole for a ball. get the right size ball 1 7/8 or 2, inch bolt it up get a wire harness and your off to the water

Yikes!

Don't even think about it.

And you may need to practice driving with a boat and trailer behind you as your stopping distance will increase so you have to be extra careful.

I know it may be expensive but please have the trailer hitch and light package installed by a professional.

Or at least a guy who knows what he is doing.

It is always better to be safe than sorry and a trailer loaded with any type of watercraft can be very dangerous on the road if you do not know what you are doing.

And we want you to grow up, go to college, get that degree and pay a lof of F.I.C.A. as we have previously discussed. :)

Like I said eariler, does it have a step bumper?

I towed my 15 foot V hull with a GMC S-15 ( just like a S-10) with a 4 banger/ 5 speed, with a step bumper that I bolted a ball on for years and never had any problem..

If you truck doesn't have rear step bumper(which alot of truck do not come with one) then you will need to get a reciever hitch installed. you can go to a U-HULL and get one done for around $200.

Around Southwest Louisiana every one pulls Jon boats using just their bumper; most bumpers are rated high enough far a Jon boat.

A Jonboat is light so it shouldn't make much difference on the truck.  But you will need a hitch ball, depends on the trailer but either a 1 1/78" (smaller trailers) or a 2" (most bigger trailers 16ft-longer).

Don't put Overdrive on if you are towing at least 500lbs+.

Also if you are towing with a bumper mount ball, watch your sharp turns because the trailer will hit the bumper and maybe make a kink in bumper, which if you have a chrome bumper stands out.  But if you have a under bumper receiver then you can turn sharper.  And just make sure to add a little more turn so you don't hit something when turning.

Last, also don't backup to quickly because the shorter the trailer the harder to back to because they turn quicker so just go slow when backing up.
