What pound test braid should I go with for this?

Featured Replies

Was given a nice present from a customer I did some work for the other day. I was actually thinking about getting a setup specifically to use as a frog/jig/pitch soft plastics rod and I was given a Daiwa IM-7 7’6” heavy graphite rod. I’m a real big fan of 832 Sufix but I’m not sure what strength to go with. I have 40 on most of my rods and was leaning towards either 50 or 65 test. If it matters I live in the Midwest so while I may frog in some juicy areas it’s not like I’m going to be punching through a lot of thick mats and such around here. TIA for the recommendations!

40 would be the least I would use. I like 50 the best for jigs and frogs. 65 for super heavy flipping and punching.

Like above, 50 will work fine....I use 65, only because that's what I was told when I started out.  LOL

Another vote for the 50lb.  I have it on my frog rod and it behaves nicely for frogs.  Plenty of strength and you are not casting rope.
