Boat Wax??

Featured Replies

I have a 1990 fiberglass Champion boat.  I have no idea if/when was the last time it has been waxed.  What brand/kind should I get?

I have a bottle of Bass Boat Saver, I have heard great things this stuff.  I will use it all the time after I wax the boat.  It does have a few scracth on the boat hull & a little oxidation!!

I'd start out with some 3M rubbing compound to get rid of dead paint and small scratches, then get a good carnuba wax like meguair's.  It may take a few coats but should help out quite a bit.

bassboatsaver is a wax also has uv protection. you need nothing other than bbs.

Just make sure not to wax below the water line of the boat it will hurt your performance for a little while until the wax is rubbed off. I use Meguirs on my boat and it works great, all quality waxes have a Uv protectant in them, you might want to use a good cleaner/wax and maybe rubbing compound to get a good clean surface before waxing.

I always thought the wax help make the part in the water glide faster over the water.  It actually slows you down until it rubs off?

Most bass boats when they are on plane are riding on a "pad" under the hull. The problem with waxing sounds silly but it does not allow the boat to come out of the water and get on plane as easy causing it to ride lower in the water and thus dragging down performance. common sense tells you other wise but I've actually seen this happen on several ocasions both with myself and on friends boats to see a common problem
