The color of your boat

Featured Replies

is it true that if the bottom of your boat is shinny you wont catch as much fish. or should it be green

The only thing I have ever heard is that the bottom of the hull should be and usually is painted white.  The theory, I suppose, is that when viewed from underneath a light color would be less visible.  Same theory as dark colored top water lures being more visible.  My question is if this is the case the why is the Heddon Torpedo painted white on the belly in the baby bass color?  I think it is rare that a fish would see the top of the lure especially a topwater lure.

Your trying to get a bass to think human. Theres a term for that, but I can't remember it. Is it a log up there floating or a cloud? Truth is, his brain don't think that way...what little there is of it!  Ive had both and it don't matter, but only to you. What color you like is more important.

go ahead and swim under the boat...once down past 10 feet any boats hull looks black, no matter what its paint color. ;)

Paint a school of shad on the bottom of your boat. The fish will try to attack the school, then knock themselves out on the bottom of your boat.  Then just scoop up the big ones.

;)

I think someone is way...way over thinking everything. just go out and fish. ;)

BTW I don't think I have ever seen a boat with a green bottom.. have you? :-?

Hey on the other thing metioned. the torpedo the clear one works great too, think about that.

Anthropomorphism, that is ! or ?

And yes I agree we do that too often in fishing ..... Just like for color selection in lures... but then again, I think the issue was already debated in the Sexy shad thread.

Choose the color you like on your bassboat, it'll look black from the depth anyway.

It doesn't matter what color the bottom is, it's the sudden massive shadow appearing that spooks the fish (if they're shallow) ;)

Perfectly said.

The fish just wishes that whatever it is up there would sit still long enough for it to use it as cover. ;)
