jack plate on new ranger boat?

Featured Replies

Do I need to put a jack plate on a new ranger z boat?

my main fishing is on small (80 to 600 acre) lakes , very little big water

like (Lake St Clair,Mi). Its not about the money to put it on , just if it is

neccesary for my type of fishing. I'm planning that this will be my last purchase in boats. I have small ranger boat now w/no jack pate.

I personally don't think so. The z boats get up pretty quick and if mainly fish small lakes there isn't a need there. Just depends though some people love them.  Never had one so no expert here, been in plenty of boats that do and didn't seem to be an advantage most the time. Almost all the ones I see at dealers are already rigged with them though.

A jackplate would only be necessary if you want to get peak performance and handling from it.    A hydraulic jackplate lets you drop the motor down deeper for better hole shot and then bring it up for to optimum hight for max top speed.  They are also handy when running shallow water, you can bring the motor up about four inches without having to use the motors trim.  This makes it much easier to manuver.
