Hi,

i was wondering if anyone has fished the US Open on Mead? I’ve never even been to Mead before and was wondering if anyone has any tips? What’s the main baitfish on the lake? I’ve never fished a lake with such clear water either. I’m usually on the Delta or Clearlake in Ca and Clearlake is anything but clear. Any tips are greatly appreciated. 

Threadfin Shad are the baitfish.

Mead is a big lake subject to extreme weather from heat to high wind in October. 

Are you fishing as amateur back seater? The US open draws partners each day.

If your boater decides to fish wood with jigs the water is off color and bushes mixed in with boulders.

If your boater decides to chase Shad schools then top water and jerk baits work.

If your boater decides to fish shaded pockets the drop shot works.

Mead is full of quagga/zebra mussels that cut line with bottom contact lures. 

Most of Meads water has good clarity, off color where rivers enter the lake.

Translucent purples, reds and cinnamon/blue neon work  at mead for soft plastics.
