Cheap fishing kayak.

I just got a pontoon the other day, and let me tell you, I love it more then I love fishing from a boat.

1. No trolling motor to deal with, I can stay positioned with just my feet and flippers in the water.

2. You make less noise.

3. Feel more at peace on the water.

You get a GREAT work out. To get from place A to place B you use the oars. To only travel short distances, maybe along a tully wall that you're fishing, or just moving 20-30 yards slowly while fishing, you can use your feet.

Legs and arms get a work out.

Toons over kayaks - you can take a trolling motor easily, you can easily disassemble to fit somewhere, you can carry more gear, you can stand if you wish, easier to bring fish in, less likely to tip over, can use your feet to stay in place and fish with BOTH HANDS.

OK, glad to hear that, BUT I still think SOTs are the way to go. The Victory is a nice looking SIK. Let us know when you have your new Yak!

SOT's are definitely the rage for fishing applications but one huge advantage a SIK has is tracking and if you want to cover any distance without wearing yourself out there's a case to be made for it. It really depends on where you'll be using it: large water vs. small lakes and ponds and how well you plan to outfit your yak. My SIK is pretty sparingly modified but I have everything I need and I can cross a good sized lake a lot faster and with a lot less huffing and puffing (especially in any kind of breeze) than a friend of mine who has a SOT.

To each his own. Just my .02

With that said, if I had the loot I'd add one of these to my arsenal:http://www.hobiecat.com/kayaking/models_outback.html

There's a loaded one at a local dealer with fish finder, anchor, 3 rod holders and it's sweet.

I will use it on whatever water is available and that ranges from large ponds for fairly good sized lakes. I plan on adding two rod holders and a fish finder. Also possibly a trolling motor for when I feel lazy 8-).

I've never seen a SIK with a trolling motor. That would be interesting to see where you mount the motor and the battery. Are you SURE you want a SIK instead of a SOT kayak??

PS: I just got my Nu Canoe this afternoon and it looks AWESOME!! Tons of room and it appears that it will be easy to stand in while fishing!  I hope to use it Wednesday and I'll let you all know what I think. I can already see that it's going to be WAY better than the Malibu Mini-X that I had.

Yeah, I would imagine that putting a trolling motor on a SIK would be a fairly involved mod. I'm sure it could be done but a SOT would definitely be easier to outfit that way.

Let us know how you like the NuCanoe Popeye. I've heard that a lot of makers state that you can stand in their boats but I've never seen one that looks like it can live up to the claim. The NuCanoe looks like one that might have the stability to allow it.

Well I like to be a big boy and do it my self. I might drill two holes near the side put in two screws and put some washers and a plank on the other side.
