Mounting seats to tank type bench

Featured Replies

I have a 14' VHull with tank type bench. What is the best way to mount seats for this type of bench.

Well unless you want to put a hole in your seat so you can put some nuts on the other side of the boat you can drill i pilot hole and put some 1/2 inch rivets in it or whatver size you want

Oh sorry didn't i didn't make myself clear. You can get some seat plates and seat pins to use on your seats and use the rivets to hole the plate down

Tyler- Rivets make holes. Pedestal plate mounts using a pin lock system make an even bigger hole

There are a few things you can do.

If you don't want to make holes, you can use a clamp on style like this

If you don't mind holes but need the seats to be totally removable (No pedestal sticking up) then you can use this mount

If you don't mind holes, this is my highest suggested mount, it's what I use on my boat.  This is the mount with the biggest footprint, (i.e. best weight distribution) Today, I will be finishing the mounting of these.  I am re-doing them so they are bolted instead of screwed.  This involves making a hole in the SIDE of the seat but it comes in handy for storage.

I'll take a few pics for you today.

Thanks for the feed back..I have the clamp on type, but if you turn sideways or lean back alittle they come off. The tank bench has about a foot of foam under it, so I can't bolt a seat to it. Thanks again, I'll come up with something.

I've been told not to screw the seat pedestal directly onto the bench seat as the screws might pull out if you're not careful. I chose to add a 1/2 piece of plywood between my seat and and the pedestal.

There are other options, and this website shows a few of them, including a .125 aluminum reinforcement plate for about $20.
