I would like to get member's opinions/ideas on where to mount a Lowrance X-38c HD unit, bow or console?  Currently, I have a Low. 102-c on the bow and a LMS-332c in the console.  I will be removing the 102c this season. (felt like it wasn't helping my style of fishing).

But my buddy has one mounted by his dash on a ram type mount. He has the networked into his front fish finder. Works out really well for him. The reason I'd put it there is because of the maps it comes with.

Do you feel handicapped with a lower resolution screen than the 38c HD? What "style of fishing" warrents a change from the 102-c on the bow to either of the other two units?

Thanks for the reply.  Basically, I like structure fishing and I really like to "sight fish" at times, with my bow mount.  I feel the 102-c is not powerful enough to give me accurate readings.  I felt a stronger watt unit would give truer readings and I was fortunate enough to get a HUGE discount on the LCX-38 HD.  There fore, I am struggling with making the decision, Do I mount this on the bow (where I spend 90% of my time?) or (Do I mount this in the console area to give me better definition running at high speeds? and with the bigger screen easier reads on the fly?)

As far as what LCR to use for high speed running, all are equal as only the very first verticle pixels on the right side of the screen indicates real time returns-everything else displayed is history. Screen size is not a factor in that senario. A flasher display is a lot better for high speed use. When you are actually fishing the same applies if you are stationary, only the first pixel will be real time. If you are moving about with the trolling motor and off plane with the outboard, then a larger screen will display are little longer history for structure analyzing and fish location. The higher verticle pixel count can be as asset in either location when trying to locate fish. All of the units you have are plenty powerful enough for frest water fishing use.

The major disadvantage of mounting that heavy unit on the bow is the shock it will have to endure when hitting wakes/waves whether it is on a Ram mount or just on it's gimble mount.

Wayne P. took the words right out of my mouth except his knowledge surpasses mine.  An LMS 332c at the console and a 102c at the bow is a pretty good combination in my book, but then I'm not very familiar with the LCX-38 HD.
