styrofoam boat floats

Featured Replies

I have styrofoam floats in my boat that are water logged. They are heavy! Anyone have any ideas on how to dry them out or are they going to need to be replaced? The floor is apart and I dont want to put it back together until I get an answer. I mean it adds alot of weight to the boat. Any comments would be appreciated!

It would take a lot of time for those to dry out naturally. Your best bet is to remove the water logged stuff and replace with new. From what I was told it is not the same stuff you can buy in the cans from hardware stores.

I need to replace some floatation foam in my boat too. Any ideas on what we should use?

I haven't seen to many boat builders on this forum.

And thinking out side of the box I have used milk jugs, water bottles and Ping-Pong balls.  I assume they work, but fortunately have never had to test them.

I wonder if a local Insulation Company would spray a boat? I know they use closed cell PolyIso to insulate homes around here. If they can fill in between 2X4's, I would think they can do a boat easily and it wouldn't take much material. Just a thought...
