Sunline SX1 #12 lb. for Spinning Reel ?

Featured Replies

I notice a number of Pro's use the Sunline SX1 Braid #12 lb. on a spinning reel with a leader for drop shot , shakey head , etc.

*Is there any advantage to this Sunline SX1  braid for spinning reel applications mentioned above versus say Power Pro #10 lb. or #15lb. used as a mainline with a leader on a spinning reel ?

It seems to come in more odd sizes than other lines. It's pretty noisy coming through the guides. Saying that I have used 16 lb SX1 combined with a 7lb fluoro leader and liked it.

After more research , it appears the main trait for bottom dwelling applications is that the SX1braid is more neutral (i.e. doesn't float or sink) which may have some benefit . I would think PP #10lb. ~ #15 lb. braid would sink just fine for a drop shot , shakey head , etc. without putting a bow in your line .

I wanted to try it but the spool sizes they offer throw me off. You have to get 125 yards which isn’t enough or 600 yards which is too much and too expensive for a braid that I don’t even know if I like yet.

Get the small spool and put some cheap mono backing on the reel before the Sunline?

I personally throw high vis 12lb sx1 and 16lb dark moss sx1 on tatula LT 4000s. In both cases with the shollower tatula spool the 125 yards is more than enough. I also did braid to 6-8 fc sniper leader. They cast a mile on either braid set up. The 12lb is feels like a noticeable different line than the 16lb. The 12lb is extremely soft and thin. The 16 feels like a normal power pro to me but still good. Try 10 or 15lb smackdown too. I think smackdown is the best braid, period.

Thanks for the replies - since braid lasts fairly long I will look into the Smackdown 10 lb. ~ 15 lb.
