Removing puck

Featured Replies

Any tips on removing an existing puck that was epoxied to the hull? Picked up a pair of new mega-bird to replace my old hds. Ordered 2 unit connect kit that comes with a new through hull puck as well as ethernet connections for front and back units.

How is the current one mounted?  Are you going to try and save it?  Normally and epoxied puck can be removed by using a razor knife and a scraper to cut the epoxy and pry it loose.  Clean the area really well and with the new puck, epoxy it down and put something heavy on it to let it set up.  Clean surface is the key.  No bubbles in the epoxy is the second most important thing.  Some that I know weight the puck and put enough water in the bilge to cover the puck and take it to the lake to see if it is in a good position and reads well.

It was epoxied down with the epoxy that came with the unit. Im hoping now i dont have to remove it, i think i can put the new one in by the existing one. I decided to try and leave old puck in case it can be used again if i go back to a lowrance unit.

I do plan to put a ziplock bag of sand on new puck with water in hull over it, to make sure its in a good spot on hull.
