Next rod??

Featured Replies

Going into my first Kayak tournie season...
My current rod count is as follows;
Spinners-
Lews TP1 6.9 Med/Lt
Elysian Arcadian 6.8 Med/Lt
Elysian Arcadian 7.0 Med

Caster
Lew's Carbon Fire 7.0 Med/Hvy

My plan is to take 4 rods on the Yak; 2 Spinners and 2 Castsers. a Med/Lt and the Med SPinners and the Med/Hvy Caster .

Given what I own at this point what do you all recommend for that 2nd caster? What gap do I need to fill?

The only thing I can think of that you're missing is a heavy rod for jigs.

Depends on the type of water and what you're using.

If you fish a lot of slop/heavy weeds or medium sized swimbaits I'd add a MH/fast baitcaster.

I think what's going to happen is you will soon say, "Crap, I need a fifth", followed by "Crap I need a sixth" LOL

That's what happened to me.

Think of the waters you're fishing and go from there.  First tournament of the season, I'll bring four rods.  Then as we progress into summer, I'll have 6 or 7 rods on hand.

I think adding another MH or a lighter Heavy rod would be beneficial.

I suggest a cranking rod unless your specific waters indicate otherwise. Frog fishing is fun for sure but it’s a bid gamble in a tx situation imo.
