What should be my next rod? (Spinning)

Featured Replies

Hey everyone!

I finally received my Dobyns Fury 663SF (Med/Fast) paired with a Pflueger Supreme XT 30!  This is going to be used with 10lb power pro/8lb yozuri hybrid, primarily for finesse tactics such as TX rig (weightless and weighted), ned rig, drop shot, shaky head, wacky rig, etc.--

I had just upgraded from a 7' Ugly Stik Gx2 Medium paired with a Shimano Sienna 2500 and was wondering two things:

1) What I should now use the Gx2 rod for, since I've upgraded my finesse rod?  This was my main rod, used it for applications listed above AS WELL as spinners, small cranks (KVD 1.5 and smaller) and even a 3/8 chatterbait.  Maybe just use it as a secondary finesse rod with a diff rig tied on?

2) What should be my next rod?  I kind of want to jump into the baitcaster game but am not looking forward to bird nests/backlash etc--   I know I should be getting something probably in the Medium Heavy side of things, whether baitcast or spinning right?  I know these rods are used for heavier jigs/deeper cranks etc but I am not usually able to get super deep from the bank, most times-- I do want to get into frogging though eventually and well, I guess I'll just wait for your opinions, lol.

Things to know:  I fish from the bank like 99% of the time.  I am usually fishing creeks, ponds, small lakes and even bigger lakes sometimes.

Thanks!!!!!

I would fish as much as you can with the new rod that you just got to see what you like about it and what presentations it excels at. Then you will have a better idea at what you want your next rod to be.

If you really need another rod and can’t wait I would probably go with a ml spinning or a medium casting rod. Baitcasters are easy to learn.
