Good travel rod under $100?
He mentioned air travel. 2 piece rods are a lot more difficult to fly with than rods with more (shorter) pieces.

Good travel rod under $100?
This is an annoying answer bc it is slightly above your budget, but I am really impressed with the Daiwa Ardito and it comes in a nice little case/tube. I think it retails for $130. If you look around you may be able to find it for under $100, I did a couple of years ago.

Light Surf Fishing Advice
Caught 5 smaller fish my first time out! Fun stuff. Anyone ever experienced any corrosion issues using freshwater baitcasting reels in the salt? I read a post on another board claiming a guy had corrosion in his new, well taken care of, Daiwa Coastal SV. Before reading that, I was about to use my Daiwa Tatula SV. Now I am a little hesitant. Do I need to buy a Shimano Tranx 200 or something similar? ?

Fishing the most pressured lake soon...
I usually start off by imparting very subtle action like a more traditional dropshot plastic. If that doesn’t seem to be working I start slowly swimming it or bouncing it until the fish tell me what they want. Some days it works really well some days not at all haha.

Try dropshotting a 3” Keitech swing impact on a size 2 hook with 6 or 7 lb fluoro.

Light Surf Fishing Advice
Thanks for all of the advice guys. I picked up an inexpensive Okuma steelhead rod. 7’6”, 4-10lbs., 3/16-5/8. It is only a light power and pretty whippy. It is not going to handle all of the techniques in my original inquiry, but should make those small catches feel a little bigger, haha. I haven’t used it yet, but wanted to get something to see how I liked surf/inshore fishing before spending too much. I have a feeling I will be upgrading soon. Should be versatile enough to use for trout or panfish too.

Sportsman’s Warehouse has $20 off if you spend $100. They have some discounts on fishing items too. I placed an order with them recently and was happy with their fast delivery.

Light Surf Fishing Advice
Decided to start a new thread. I am going to try surf fishing for the first time on a trip later this month. My understanding is the common species are surf perch and corbina. I plan to throw lures/artificials. My question is what rod would be ideal to throw both topwaters, jerkbaits, grubs, and maybe some Gulp plastics. Is there one rod that can handle all of these techniques? Asking too much from one rod? In the bass world I would have a few different rods. The rod will need to be 2 pieces or more or perhaps telescoping? My first inclination was using a ml or m bass rod, but thought they may be too short? Top water may be difficult to “walk” the bait with the longer rod? Any advice on line, other resources, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What saltwater lures should I get
This thread is very helpful. Anyone know if I can use my Shimano Stradic CI4+ in salt water? This reel is an older model 2015 or 2016 maybe. It is black and red.

Thoughts on buffs and gloves in the summer
Every year I think to myself that it is too early in the year to get a sunburn on my hands while fishing/kayaking. Then I proceed to get a very bad sunburn on my hands and wear gloves for the rest of the year haha.

Is there a decent baitcasting telescoping rod?
My current living arrangement limits me to 2 piece or multi piece rods and you are 100% correct that the biggest problem is the lack of selection. It is frustrating how limited the selections are. As someone else had mentioned, Japan seems to have a lot of options. It might be time to educate myself on shopping the JDM websites. Also, I too recommend the 3 piece Daiwa Ardito. It is a very nice rod for the price.

Maryland's Who's who!
Someone asked me if I caught any turtles while fishing the canal this morning, reminded me of what @Fried Lemons said haha. I caught one on a paddle tail and threw in the same spot and hooked into another one but I got hung up on timber instantly. Neither were too big. I also had a couple fish take my frog underwater but they didn’t hang on. I have been doing pretty well (for me) the past couple times out.

Fishing with Top Water Lures
I like using straight braid for long hooksets. Although this year I have had problems with my braid getting tangled in the front treble hook.

Maryland's Who's who!
The very first time that I waded the Upper Potomac this year I got 4 bites, but only landed two smallies in a few hours. I went back to the same spot a half dozen times and got one additional bite total. Kind of glad to hear it isn’t only me. Did get to see some really cool wildlife on days that I was skunked.

Maryland's Who's who!
I went out to the Upper Potomac early Saturday in search of some smallmouth. Apparently I misread the online gauges bc the water was slightly too high and swift for me to wade toward the main channels of the river in a safe manner. I stuck around for a little bit throwing some casts to areas that were less than ideal and trying to do some skipping practice with my new reel. Also had the chance to check out a few new-to -me spots that I want to check out when conditions are better.

Budget casting rod with a large lure weight range
As I stated above I can pretty much do all of this with my current medium rod and reel. Just wanted something that also loads with a ned rig on a 1/16oz jighead and other slightly lighter presentations. I have a few spinning rods and reels that can handle this, but want a more versatile casting setup.

Budget casting rod with a large lure weight range
Ended up ordering a rod in the same line that @Junger linked to on Amazon, but am trying the 1/16-5/8 7’ m/mf. Found a really nice deal on it and wanted to try a moderate fast. If it doesn’t work out, I didn’t break the bank. Hopefully it arrives in one piece. ?

That inshore rod is interesting. I may have to pick it up.
