I was going thru some of my rods and reel setups and I have a 7 ft light action rod with a fast tip paired with a shimano spirex it's the 1000 model.My questions is would this be a decent drop shot setup considering it is on the lighter side or would this be almost too light?I love the rod and reel and I just trying to find a purpose for it for my bass fishing.I originally bought it for crappie but I hardly ever fish for crappie anymore.

Most shorter Light rods handle 4-8# test. I know some do their DS on 6# and I do mine on 8#

 

I know some 7' Light rods handle to 10#...check your rod's line rating. Long as it's good with the line you want to use I don't see a problem using a Light rated rod for DS, Ned Rig or any other finesse technique.

 

I use a Medium-Light just because that's what came with my reel in a combo buy.

Give it a try! Can't dismiss it unless you gave it a shot first ?

 

Generally I don't go lighter than ML but some people will use light-powered rods for DS.

It'll work great assuming you mean the finesse version of the drop shot. Would a Medium Light be better? Maybe so but you have a great idea adding this one back to your arsenal, especially since you love the set-up.

 

Just be certain to use the spinning gear as intended, use the rod to fight the fish, reel down on the line once the tip is high and repeat to bring the bass in.

Before I began drop shotting with a dedicated rod , I used my 5ft6 Light Fast action panfish rod; and it worked surprisingly well unless the fish were over 2 lbs; then it just seemed like the bass had the advantage ; but I would recommend a ML or a Medium power for most finesse drop shotting

I have fished a drop shot rig on all sorts of L and UL rods, so long as the weight and the hook gauge works with the power of the rod.  A thin little 3" trout worm wacky hooked on a DS rig is one of my most productive panfish lures.  

You should be fine, one of my favorite drop shot setups is an older Daiwa 1000 Fuego paired with an 8' Phenix UL trout rod.  The reel has 8# braid that I'll run to a 6-7# FC leader.  It's not only a decent drop shot set up, it's an incredibly fun drop shot set up when you're reeling in bass on such light tackle.

Thank u for ur advice and yes I cannot wait to fight a big bass on this setup
