leaking prop help

Featured Replies

I have an old merc60 6hp serial# 2633426 that purrs like a kitten, but it leaks right out of the prop, the fliud mixed with water(milky look).

Now this thing is 300 to 400 bucks to take in and fix :)

Can anyone walk me thru or know of a sight that has directions on how or what to replace to fix this?

This is what I have found but I'm not sure what to buy http://www.eastcoastmarineservice.com/models.html#67-69

you have to go by the model number and then macth up the serial number. as I do this its saying its made in 1969 but, the serial number doesn't go that high I noticed-it jumps over to merc75 7.5hp(which it is not) any feed back fellas?

Somebody's robbing you, it's a seal kit and should be lots less than $400.

Yea! choked on my mt.dew when he told me.

I'm picking up a lower unit seal kit and going ahead and getting a water pump impeller kit too.

well I got my parts in today, and there is alot of little things to it :)

I did manage to figure how to take off the lower unit. I plan on going by the library to see if they have a book to help guide me thru it, I really hope so cause I have not done this before. well heres some pics of the mess so far

Have you ever considered just buying a manual??  They are only about $30.

well yea, but wouldn't ya think the BR source could provide????

If I go out and by the manual just to show me how to properly apply seals then why be here?  this sight is free and the info is over whelming, I'm really hoping someone can help me here for the reason they joined and therefor have some history here to show others that need this info,

I won't stop just from this issue, If I get a manual from the library and fix it then I will post the pics and give out the free info on how I did it, I'm sure Glenn, Russ and other moderators will appreciate it :)

Thats why I bounce around on the boat side of the forum-info baby, info
