Split Ring Size Did I Go Wrong?

Featured Replies

So I blindly bought split rings as I didn't know what came on the baits from the factory. I ordered #1 an #2 owner Hyper Wire Both Oval an #2 Round. I noticed the baits have a lot larger diameter wire then what I ordered. Does that matter? If anything I figured it would help? I seen #2 Round split rings were rated for 37lbs. which is more than the line anyway so that is why I ordered them. (These are for Crankbaits) I don't know what the factory rates them at but I would guess. Smaller quality parts are just as strong as larger cheap stuff?

So a quick question would be Should I match wire size when selecting rings for Crankbaits or should I just use the smallest that will work?

I just ordered & received #2 & #4 black hyper wire black split rings. Your right the #2 are just a little too small but they will work. The #3 are probably the best size for smaller jerks & cranks. The #4 are a good size for medium/large baits. The #2 being so small are harder to see & work with because of their size.

I was just wondering since it was rated at X lbs. more than my line anyway does it make a difference? Does the smaller ring have any bearing on the action of the bait since it ties the treble closer the lure? Or is that off set by the significantly lighter wire?

Maybe I put too much thought into things......
