Potholes Reservoir Sand Dunes

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

weather is gonna be nice this weekend over at potholes reservoir in Washington so id thought id give it a first timer try. but ive heard I can get lost or stuck in sand dunes if I got no gps as it can be tricky going to and from or returning back to the launch. ill be fishing out of a 13ft gregor with a small outboard and a troll motor but no electronics of any sort.

so for starters, I don't know how high or low the reservoir is right now but im wondering how I should tackle this dilemma. im not sure how my T-Mobile coverage will be out there either so id like some advice from the veterans on this one.

Thank you

It's near full pool right now.  T-Mobile coverage is no problem.

Since this is your first time, I'd recommend fishing the face of the dam, and the Linde Coulee area.  You can't get lost there, and there are plenty of fish to be caught. Just don't run your boat between the big island and the dam. It's very shallow and rocky, and you could hit a rockpile.  But that area holds a lot of fish, so don't hesitate to fish it on your trolling motor.

The area around the entrance to Lind Coulee is a good place to start. There's a small island and rocky shorelines all around. They all hold fish, so you can't make a bad cast. Just keep working your way back in, and you'll connect.

You can also launch at the M street launch and start fishing at the bridge, go underneath, and cast away!  It's a target-rich environment.

Hope that helps!

hard to get lost there is so much water right now there are few to no dunes. some might be just under the surface though. use google earth to mark main channels. right now it's easy to get around and fish everywhere in that lake regardless of where you fish yo can catch something. good luck.
