Hello all. What is the ideal temp range for portable (cooler) livewells??? What are the best ways to maintain that temp??? Thanks.

Your best bet is to freeze a couple of small plastic water bottles and then recirculate the water a few times through out the day.

By "recirculate"  do you mean refresh with lake water or just run a pump in the cooler?  I would like to buy the parts to put in live well cooler, but I'm not sure about drilling hole in boat to fill the livewell.  I have 14' Lowes big jon.

Thanks,

Mary

Yes, That is what I meant, refresh with lake water..Sorry! :)

I totally understand about drilling the holes.

So, that means you need to drill holes to have pump in back of boat, and then have pump in livewell to circulate the water in there(and add O2)??

Does just a cooler livewell really work?  Is it a waste of money?

You might want to exchange water a couple times a day. Just get a bilge pump with a long hose and battery leads and pump water in and out that way. You could hold the pump submerged and get a little cooler water. The get the recirculation system or the airstones to keep oxygen in the water.

Walmart has a system for a cooler that is about $30.  It uses a bilge pump to pump in, out, and aireate.  You simply dunk the pump in the lake and hold the hose in the cooler to fill, hose out to pump out, and hook the hose to the PVC tube to aireate.  That plus the ice should be perfect.
