  1. So, that means you need to drill holes to have pump in back of boat, and then have pump in livewell to circulate the water in there(and add O2)?? Does just a cooler livewell really work? Is it a waste of money? Mary
  2. By "recirculate" do you mean refresh with lake water or just run a pump in the cooler? I would like to buy the parts to put in live well cooler, but I'm not sure about drilling hole in boat to fill the livewell. I have 14' Lowes big jon. Thanks, Mary
  3. My evinrude "pees" as soon as I start motor. I'm sure someone with knowledge about your motor will come along. Good luck. Mary
  4. I have mine set up to run off of Makita 12v batteries. I carry two batteries with me. I have everything in a milk crate. The fishfinder is mounted to a board that is hinged to milk crate. I have transducer on board with clamp to mount it on transom. The board idea works okay, but I am going to go ahead and mount it on boat and leave the wires when I take fish-finder out at night. The crate holds other stuff, and I can angle it so I can see the screen from where I fish.
  5. I am going to be getting seats for my jon boat. I was at Cabela's and the most comfortable seat for me was the plastic cheap one. I will be working on a rear deck soon but even though my purse(and butt) likes the cheap one, they just look so tacky. Mary
  6. I am new to boats and motors. I bought my used jon boat last year. The guy started in his yard and it ran. It just didn't run on the water. I bought a manual and started replacing parts. I rebuilt water pump. I rebuilt carb. The motor would run but when I would put it on the water it wouldn't push the boat. I had a guy come by for $50.00 and he thought the motor was shot. Compression tests varied. After I paid my money, to the roving mechanic I found out that the motor wasn't "peeing"(I wonder why he didn't notice this?). I replaced thermosat, some other valve, head gasket, and other gaskets. At this time I replaced most of the fuel line under the hood. I went to Autozone to buy fuel line(I even took the old line with me) and they sold me vacuum line. I returned it the next the day. I replaced my fuel lines with fuel lines I had left over from my motorcycle. And still the motor wouldn't push the boat. I didn't think the fuel pump was good and I questioned the primer knob, but I didn't want to keep throwing money at it, so I used a small minakota TM to fish with. This February I took the boat and motor to a real boat dealer. They would charge me $75.00 to look at motor. The mechanic called me up and told my that the motor was good and it would cost so much to fix it. Then he called back to say, well really I need two other parts. Total was $380. I didn't get carb clean. Main jet was still plugged up. The fuel pump was the wrong one and not pumping enough gas, and the primer knob was leaking. He also sold me a OMC fuel line from tank to motor and a lock for motor. I like working on motor, but I like the motor running even better. If a tradesman knows how to fix something I am more than happy to pay good money for the knowledge. I have taken the boat out twice now and it flat out flies across the water. If I ever need to get motor worked on again, I will go right back. In fact, if I ever want buy a new boat, that is where I will go.
  7. I have mine on the back. I am still playing with the layout of my jon boat but the rear half of the boat is where I fish from and I run the motors.
  8. Thanks. I am making holder out of alum. tube. I was thinking of adding a little hook on the transom for the pole to catch on. Something like one half of a cleat. I've never had a fishfinder before so I'm still playing with ideas. I have an old lowe's big jon. I'm slowly fixing things to make it a better fishing boat. Last year the big motor (25 horse) didn't run right. This year I've got the motor working great, added a bigger trolling motor, and now I bought a fish finder!
  9. I know this is an old topic, but I was hoping Long Mike could answer a couple questions about his fish finder set-up. Mike, when you clamp this on boat do you clamp it on the transom? If you do does it stay on when use the big motor? I'm thinking about mounting on transom and then moving the pole with the sensor on it to the front side of the boat when I troll. Does the sensor have to be lined up with the length of the boat? Or does not it really matter? Great set up. Thanks, Mary
