How to use this??

Featured Replies

So I bought a tackle box that came the different size hooks, weights, along with a couple other things. I'm not sure how to use one of the things included in the box. Honestly not even sure if its meant for bass fishing ha. Its not letting me upload the picture so I'll explain how it looks the best I can. Its a circle piece of plastic with a hole in the middle. From that piece of plastic is about 6 wires rolled together then they Seperate about a half inch up into 1 wire with a loop and the end of each one... Any help is much appreciated!

I'll take a guess.  Sounds like bobber stoppers.  If you know bobber stoppers and it isn't them, then, I tried.  If there is a little rubber thing right before the end loop, you put your line through the loop of one of the wires then pull the rubber thing toward the end loop until the rubber makes the line double, then continue to pull the rubber thing until it is on your single strand of line.  Slide the stopper up the line to the depth you want to fish and then add a slip bobber and then the hook.

Awsome thats what it is!! Thank you I've never used bobber stoppers before.

They are a little tricky at first look.  Can be used for bass fishing with soft plastic or live bait.  There are a number of uses for them.  Pegging a slip weight for Texas rigging is a popular one.  Also pegging a weight for punch rigging is popular.

By the way, welcome to the forum?

Thanks I'm sure I'll learn a lot on here, I just got into fishing last year. I've hear of bobber stoppers but never used them, Definetly going to use them when I Texas rig my soft plastics ? Another question if you don't mind. The hook that has the weight already attached ( its a circle weight with the eye of the hook on top of the weight, believe its called a jig hook ) is that the same thing? When would I use the bobber stopper vs the hook with the weight already attached? Sorry my fishing lingo isn't the best.

Often a Texas rig (T-rig just means the hook point is buried in the plastic) is fished without a bobber stopper which allows the bullet weight to slide on the line.  This allows the bass to suck in the lure without feeling the weight plus allows the angler to feel the bite better.  The negative is when fishing in heavy cover the separation of the weight from the lure causes more hang-ups in the brush, grass or whatever.

Jigs are a whole different animal.  When you would use a jig vs. a T-rig is mostly personal preference.  The prey you are trying to imitate is a factor.  Some jigs are designed to reduce snagging, others have open hooks.  To get an idea of how many different types of jigs there are, Google Tackle Warehouse or any other large retailer and look at them.

The search function on this web site is awesome.  You can find anything plus videos.  Endless learning for fishing lol.
