things auto manufacturers should stop making
I like and use most all of the so called "safety" features. I don't like it when my lane keeping assistance reads the new tar lines created from filling cracks in the highway. I did like the blind spot assistance when in a driving rainstorm it kept me from pulling into the lane where there was already a vehicle. Side mirror was useless due to the severity of the rain. I did learn hands free use of the phone with Car Play after getting a distracted driving ticket in Georgia while sitting at a stoplight with the cell phone in my hand. Admittedly I was a little slow getting away when the light turned green. Distracted, yes, because there was a sheriff's deputy on a motorcycle sitting beside me watching my every movement, of which I was unaware. Figured the $60 ($50 + $10 transaction fee) fine was a wake up call that could save my life in the future, under different circumstances.

I am the most serious non serious fishermen!
Susky, I fish exactly the way you said it. No plans to change a thing.

Spinning rods for everything?
I have both, and use both, about equally. I could fish "only" baitcasting or spinning but probably won't because not being willing to spend money for good ultra finesse baitcasting rods and reels. On the other hand, my favorite way to fish is pitching of which "for me" is more easily done with baitcasters. It all comes down to personal preference. Glad both are available.

Am i the minority when it comes to reels?
I don't have a large number of reels like the OP and many others, but when I buy a another brand it is because I want to try something different. When it comes to Shimano, Daiwa, Abu, and Lew's, I have a few of all of them (none more then $250), and they all get fished regularly. If you were to ask me which is my favorite, I have none. To me they are all good tools with which to catch fish.

Strong Loop Knot Recommendation
I have tried a variation of this knot from the vid. Kreston Loop Knot https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enbVQgXLUh0 Skip through the narrative to 3:45. Tie knot like shown from 3:45 to 5:45. Pull the main line to tighten, but leave a small hole in the center of the knot, large enough to slip the tag end through later. At 5:45, loop tag end around the main line twice, back toward the knot, then stick the tag through the center of the knot. Gently pull the tag end down while pulling the main line which will "close" the knot with the tag inside the knot. Pull on the tag, and with the other hand work the two loops around the main line snug against the knot. Cut tag at 1/8 inch and test for any slippage. It's a lot easier to do than to tell how to do. This works for me on 8# to 14# which is my range of lines used.

Using our senses to locate bass
@ol'crickety I defer to someone far more knowledgeable than I. It was an assumption (I know better) on my part that it was shad, them being the biggest baitfish source in the lake. Could be any school of fish small enough to be lunch for other larger fish. Only way it ties with the original question of the senses and fishing is, I hear it almost every time on the lake and before turning around the school is gone. The sound, more like a purring sound to me, causes me to make a couple of casts to the spot normally coming up empty.

Using our senses to locate bass
c/n @1984isNOW That would be schooled shad being pushed to the surface and jumping out of the water most likely.

Anybody else struggle with living in the past/nostalgia?
At 83, the only thing about the past that I would wish for is that the love of my life was still with me. I don't dwell on it. Every new day is a blessing to be lived and enjoyed. I'm blessed to be physically and mentally able to enjoy that day.

Others have probably said this before me, but anyone who thinks this has not been happening in all types of business has had his head in the sand.

Yet another kayaker missing and presumed dead
I wear a pfd "all" the time on the water. Good reason, 83 and never learned to swim.

Recommendations for prop pitch for 1994 Johnson 40hp 2stroke outboard
I have a 40 hp Yamaha with probably a little heaver aluminum boat than you and I have the best luck with a 10 and a quarter inch prop with 15 pitch. I have a 12 pitch, which creates too many rpm's, and a 17 pitch which will barely get me on plane with just me in the boat plus full 20 gallons of gas and water in the live well.

I have never...
I have never detected a bite from any species of fish while holding my line or laying it over a finger, though I have tried many times.

Spinning gets the nod
I use both but, continually pulling out overruns, while fishing, somehow defeats the purpose of fishing for me, which is relaxing having fun. Haven't ever caught a fish on spinning and thought, that would have been much more fun on baitcasting. There is a time and a place for both. To each his/her own.

Losing it ?
At 81 there are often moments during the telling of a story when the punch line goes right out of my mind. I just laugh and say, "well, in the middle of the night I will remember, would you like me to call you".
