Two rod setup (1 spinner, 1 baitcaster)

Featured Replies

Trying to get the most out of what I currently have in regards to what line I should use with each for the specific setup.

Currently:

6ft Triumph with a PennBattleII with 6lb fluorocarbon. I use this for my plastics; texas, senkos, wacky, weedless, etc

Dobyn 734c with a Tatula CT currently have 12lb Yo-Zuri which I use for everything else.

I plan to switch the baitcaster over to a 50lb PP braid because a new pond I fish has a lot of top water vegetation (about 50% of the pond) so I plan to throw some frogs.

Does this seem effective for each in my scenario? Would switching the spinner over to a light braid be better? If needed could I fish plastics on my baitcaster with the braid only or should I use a leader?

Thanks in advance for any replies. Trying to maximize my setups the best I can.

Personally I use braid with leader for everything including spinning gear. If I know I'll be throwing a frog, I'll take the leader off.

If this pond has a lot of vegetables, you'd likely get by fine without a leader.

Yea, its a mess but has some quality fish. Caught a 4-5lb yesterday on the spinner which was nice on the side of the pond that is clear. I know a few nice fish have to be hiding underneath that crap so upping the baitcaster to some 50lb braid should do the trick.

I use a 6'8" m-xf spinning rod with 10lb braid to a 6lb leader and a 6'9" Mh-xf casting rod with 30lb braid to a 14lb leader. Probably more of a confidence thing with the leader. To me best of both worlds and offers the most versatility.
