Triton Tr 186 questions

Featured Replies

I was looking at an 18ft triton online and had some pretty generic questions about the boat.

Its a 2007 model Tr 186 single console comes with a mercury 150 (assumed to be 07 as well).

I was wondering if anyone had experiences with this model of boat or 18ft tritons in general, I've heard from some people that the older 18ft tritons chinewalk like crazy and are death traps, other people have said they're the roughest riding boat but very fast for there size, and one of my buddies absolutely loves his trx. So its kinda hard to get a clear picture of how these boats perform and if its worth my time to go look at.

Any information is appreciated.

Side note- If i purchase this boat it will be my first "performance" boat and will be my first time really driving a bass boat.

All faster bass boats can chine walk if over trimmed. When the boat is up on the pad you only have about a 16"" wide X 24" wet surface give or a few inches so balance is critical.

The engine is spinning a prop creating torque that wants to tip the backend of the boat to one side knocking the boat off the pad then it bounces back to the opposite side resulting in chime walking. Reduce speed a little, trim the engine down a tick and turn slightly into the torque side setting the hull back into the pad. When you get the right trim and speed for the way the baot is set up and weight distributed correctly the chime walk disappears.

The Triton TR 186 has recessed trolling motor foot control, 1st to offer that feature, good size rod locker and good storage.

Check the engine carefully shouldn't have more then 300 hrs, all cylinders the same compression, hopefully the boat was garaged, the seats in good condition, trolling motor and electronics upgraded, the trialer in good condition and never been in salt water.

Post a few photos,
