Bottom Contact Rod

Featured Replies

Good afternoon,

Alright so i am looking for a new jig/texas rig rod. Have used a dobyns colt its a great rod but i think its time for an upgrade. Not wanting to spend over $150. Looking for something sensitive (i know i cant ask for too much sensitivity with this budget rod). I mainly use 3/8 oz jigs and 1/4 oz texas rigs maybe throw a 3/16 every now and then. I have a few ideas in mind, the St.Croix Mojo Bass, Daiwa tatula OG, Dobyns Fury. Any suggestions with the power and length?

Those are all good options! I like the Tatula and Curado rods at that price

For the tatula should i go for the 7'1 MH XF or? Still going to look a bit more though

I’ve fished all of them. For sensitivity I would go Tatula all day and plus they are only $100 on sportsman’s outfitters. I have the MH XF and it’s a great rod for Texas rigging but seems a little under powered for bigger jigs. I have 4 fury rods and they are light and incredibly balanced and just a joy to fish.  If you’re willing to find a deal I’d look at a Tatula elite as well. Mojos always feel heavy to me btw.

With 3/8 oz. being the heaviest you throw, I would say the Tatula 7'1" MH-XF or the 7'3" MH-F are your two best options for that price point. Like @BassKicker42 said, check out other websites as you can always find the rod you're looking for cheaper. I would also suggest looking on eBay!

I'd also go with the Tatula MH/Fast.

I just started spending money for decent rods, and started down this rabbit hole with a couple of Mojos (one M, and one MH). They are the lightest rods I've ever used, but you're the second person today I've seen online talk about them being heavy or less sensitive than others in that price point. I really have been fishing with crap for a long time. ?
