Can I use 45pound braid with a super line ewg heavy wire hook? Is there a limit on how big pound test you can use. I plan on fishing some heavy cover and lots of algae Mats in the water.

assuming you are using a baitcaster, 45 pound braid is not overly heavy. I have used up to 65 pound punching in heavy cover. You want a fairly stout rod for superline hooks.

I’m in the braid camp. I do get others opinions and logic on why they might like mono or fluorocarbon, but it’s highly personal. If you like braid, use it and don’t think twice. I use 30 for most things, and my version of heavy cover (Matt’s, slop), anything 1/2oz or heavier, or most frog fishing gets 65.

I have 80# on my heaviest punch rig. 

 

45# is kinda low for punching through thick hydrilla and hyacinth mat's, down here at least.
