Reservoir rig project

Recommended Posts

Hey gang, I am new here and have been lurking for a little while since I was too busy at work to start my project. I have done this a few times with my old high school buddy TJ. Seems like life always finds a way to make me part with these projects after a while. The last time I went all aluminum to lose the wood/weight troubles. I found that the wood was like a sponge and would actually hold water when treated with any kind of sealer cuz it seemed like it could not breathe enough to let it back out. That was the way to go, made launching a lot better. sure would like to know what happened to the last one. I will have to post a pic and see if it is still around. This time I plan to stay aluminum, picked up a 16 footer with a wider beam, have the aluminum sheets cut now(wow that was expensive) and a friend has given me an old 36 volt golf cart electric outboard he had. Does anybody here have any experience with these hotrod outboards? what can you pass on to avoid troubles and hazzards?

Welcome.  Sounds like you are outfitting a rig for an electric only lake.

What is a 36 volt golf cart electric outboard?  Golf carts don't have outboards.

36 volt golf cart motor is a motor from a golf cart mounted ontop of a lower unitl.  You will need to use some type of speed controller with it.  Either a new PWM contoler for infinite speed control or solinoids for more regulated speed control, 6, 12, 24, 36 volt power.  The best advise is going to be to check your battery conections and keep them tight.  These motors draw alot of amps and can melt down batteries pretty quick.  most run 60 -80 amps.  Make certain all your switches and what not ae rated for the power you will be drawing.
