What a scare!

Featured Replies

I was supposed to go out on a float tomorrow but storms and rain are coming our way, which will last through the weekend, so I stopped by the river dam while my wife did some shopping.

The dam is fished via the top of the wall; the water is 5' below the wall. So I'm tossing squarebills and after an hour or so my Elite Tech and Tatula slipped out of my hands and fell down the wall into the water. Somehow the current kept half of the rod floating while is slowly sucked it towards the white water at the dam. I hurried up and grabbed the spinning rod with a Ned Rig tied on and casted it out there and brought it back and wrapped it around the rod as if it was wrapping around a tree branch (see, I know this technique well being that I'm the king of casting into trees). I was able to pull it back up.

Moral of the story: there's nothing a Ned Rig can't do.

Congrats on the quick thinking. First reaction might be to scramble down the wall into the water but that won't end well. Glad this one did.

Funny enough I did pull up a Shimano Clarus paired with a Shimano Sedona there today after mine fell in. The reel is rusted out or is so dirty it looks like rust by the rod is fine. I'll post pics when I'm home. It's a 6'6" M/F. It's super dirty but guides are fine, blank and cork look fine.

Magic Eraser for cork and maybe the exterior of the reel.

I experienced a similar fate recently:

That put me in a bait Monkey Frenzy and bought some spare for my trout fishing ! I can't go bass fishing til mid June here around :(

Here's that Shimano setup I pulled out of the river. I haven't done anything with it yet. The reel is a Sonora not a Sedona.

I have lost two combos running the rim canal at okeechobee. Stupidity not strapping down the rods.  I did find a team diawa while fishing the airport hole on the east side.  It was beyond help and looked like it was sunk for years.  To bad it was a high end combo.
