I am buying a house off Hackney road in North Chesterfield that has a pond in the back yard.  The pond is big and shared by neighbors.  Does anyone know who I would contact to get information of the dos and donts and if fishing is allowed? Would like to get a little boat to use on it but have no idea yet what the rules are.  Waiting on the survey to be completed.  No HOA but I am assuming it is county owned.

Thanks for the help.

Welcome aboard!

I would call your local county office. Also, your neighbors

should be able to give you some info.

Neighbors are your best bet.

You can also do as Darren suggests, call Chesterfield County and try to find out who owns the pond.

Or ask your realtor to find our for you.

Remember, if it is county owned the county will take of it as necessary. If it is homeowner owned the costs of repairing and taking of the pond will fall on the property owners who have title to the pond.

Good luck.

Outstanding! And you are now part of that Association.

Thanks flyfisher for the input.

Pretty much every county around central VA has an online GIS system and it comes in handy when you are trying to figure out ownership of ponds or right of way access points.
