Lews Pro Ti vs. metanium DC vs. Shimano Anteres

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I’m currently on the market for a new fishing reel, the ones on my list are the Lews Pro Ti, the shimano metanium DC, and the shimano Anteres. I mainly fish ponds and small lakes flipping docks/brush/lay downs I currently own an older curado model, a daiwa Tatula CT, and a cheaper lews reel. I have also owned a curado DC but gifted it to a friend cause he liked it just as much as I did. I did enjoy the whole DC thing but it’s not a deal breaker for me. I’m just looking for some of you to speak on your experiences with each reel with some pros and cons of each one! Thanks!

Never had the anteres so no comment on that one. The overwhelming majority are gonna say either shimano and I'm sure they're fantastic.  Myself,  I'd look for a deal on the lews. I'm sure any of the 3 will exceed expectations so whichever I could find the cheapest would be my pick. I'd say you can find the lews for quite a bit less than the other 2

Yeah for that much of a difference in $ I'd buy the lews. Probably can't go wrong with any of them tho. Good luck with whatever direction you go!

@Shimano_1 I can find the Lews right now for right around 280 on eBay, where as  both Shimanos are at the 400-425 mark

Check Sportsman's Outfitters.  May have the RH at a lower price.  I don't remember.  I do know they are out of LH models.

The Lews TI is a decent reel. I have one that I am using as a frog, whopper plopper and buzzbait reel.

Is it worth the asking retail price? Proberly not. But then again what reel really is. Especially the higher priced reels.

To me, most of the Lews reels that I have had feel all about the same. Granted, I have not had any of there low end budget reels.

I have owned most of their offerings from the Tournament MB ($140) on up. They are all great casting and smooth. If i was to close my eyes, it would be hard to tell which reel was in my hand.

That being said, I only own three Lews reels at the moment- Lews TI Mag, Hyper Mag and a older Tournament MG. All are great reels.

My choice is the Hyper Mag, mainly because of the lighter weight. And its a littler cheaper than the TI Mag.

It looks like Lews has a few new reels that they are adding this year also. They may be worth checking out.

As far as the other two shimano reels, I cant say a whole lots about them. Even though I am a Shimano fan boy, I am not a fan of DC reels or the Antares. To me the DC feature is just something fancy to break later down the road. And the Antares up until recently has been a very heavy bulky reel. They new antares may be worth a look at, but for the money shimano has many other reels that would preform just as good.

I would get Metanium over Antares...Antares is a bigger, heavier reel that is less useful for all around bass fishing IMO for the weight/cost.  I had the choice 5x over, and never was interested in Antares personally.

I like Lews I have the hypermag and the superduty, but I'm not sold on how the pro TI for extra$$ improves the reel, personally.  I like the look, I like the idea of a top-end Lews and it was on my radar for a while, but I just feel it's kind of like high priced rods...you basically get a little more polish/bling and a higher price.  Maybe someone that has one can break it down for us, how it's different than other quality Lews reels for less $$.

I could say the same about Shimano, but I only have Metanium MGL and Metanium DC.  I do like the Met MGLs, very light spool, bomb casts, good line control.  DC has similar cast, and better line control, at a slight weight cost and price$$.  <-  see, there are trade-offs with Shimano marketing in terms of reel performance.  I don't see that on the Lews.

I think there is a reel loaner program with tacklewarehouse, you could check them all out?

Why not consider a Metanium or Chronarch MGL?  IMO high end is not lews domain, the pro ti feels the same as the pro G in hand, honestly, though I have never cast either.
