Lake Erie Smallmouth Fishing

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I will be traveling to the western end of Lake Erie (Sandusky, OH) for a fishing tournament the first week in September. I'm figuring they will still be pretty deep around 30ft but any tips or advice on how to catch em would be greatly appreciated!

Haven't been there in quite awhile but we used to throw dd22s around the reefs with some good success some years sone not so good, those lake Erie smallies can get massive! Good luck

I would try fishing in Dwight Hottie's livewell. You will have to board his boat and I don't know how he'll feel about that. I suggest this disguise: https://www.amazon.com/Forum-Novelties-Pirate-Costume-Standard/dp/B00FP5T98Y/ref=sr_1_40?keywords=pirate+costume+men&qid=1565868915&s=gateway&sr=8-40

Most of the time when I fished the western side of lake erie, it was near the bass, kelleys or rattlesnake islands.

Draggin a tube or fishing a drop shot were our choices

3in gulp fry worm in green pumpkin or poor boys erie darter were most used baits

Fished one tourney there with a pretty stiff north wind and managed 3rd place by weighing in 17 lbs of largemouth inside of the Sandusky Bay.

Be careful as it can get rough quickly out there

Good luck and cant wait to hear how it went!!
