Crankbait rod: St Croix vs Dobyns

Featured Replies

Hello, looking for advice on a good all around crankbait rod. Will be doing mostly 5-15’ deep around cover, with the occasional deep diver (6xd) during summers. Probably looking at a M or MH with moderate action. I have heard good things about the fury line, but also heard good things about the premier crankbait rod. Looking to stay around the $125-150 range.  Thanks and always open to other suggestions.

If you go with the premier then get the MH. I have used mine for wiggle warts so far and its great. Id be comfortable with baits heavier than that but havent tried yet. The M is probably a little light for anything more than squarebills or warts.

Have you checked out the new MojoGlass rods  by StCroix? The two I held were fantastic. The 6’10” M was the one that interested me the most.

While I don't have one myself I have heard from multiple people I know and respect that the Dobyn's Fury 705CB is an amazing crankbait rod.

I have a St. Croix Premier, 7' MH/M.  Honestly, I used it for almost everything from traps to spinnerbaits at one time.  Then I got a great deal on a Legend Glass ($150) on a closeout at Cabelas, and since then I took the reel off the Premier to use for another rod.  I don't know the Mojo line, but if other glass rods are like the Legend, you don't want graphite.  The fish stay buttoned up better, I feel like I get snagged less, and the feel is perfect for a crankbait.  I can't describe it well, but it just is.
