Hey everyone, i was wondering if anyone on the forum has an experience with the Megabass Destroyer FMJ rod for both frogging and throwing jigs? Looking for a rod that would perform well enough for both applications. Thanks in advance!

I use mine for jigs.

I dont see why it wouldn't work for frogs, unless you like a slightly slower tip. The tip on the FMJ is fairly fast.

My primary frog rod is a 7'2" Jackson Supertrickster and it has a pretty fast tip but works well for me.

I like a fast tip to help move the fish out of cover.

I think the Perfect Pitch might be better in a dual role.  The tip on the Perfect Pitch is soft enough to throw lighter jigs and texas rigs...I pitch 1/4oz weight with a Z-Craw Jr on mine regularly and it does great.  It's a very unique heavy power rod, heaving enough power to frog and flip but a tip that handles lighter baits and walk frogs easily.  

 

I guess to help your decision my advice would be - If you'll do more frogging than jigging, I'd go with a Perfect Pitch.  If you're doing more jigging than frogging, I'd go with the FMJ. 

 

(Though I'd still say the Perfect Pitch would be my choice if you want versatility)

I use my FMJ for frogging fairly often.  I prefer a rod that leans towards ModF for frogs but the FMJ has never really let me down.  I think I cast far lighter lures on the FMJ then most people seem to, I use mine a lot for pitching larger weightless plastics in the 3/8-1/2oz range and I have no complaints with it's performance.  

 

The FMJ is way overkill for a frogs in terms of sensitivity, so if you are looking for a frog rod first and foremost then you could get an excellent rod for that for far less money.   

I have 2 FMJ and its never crossed my mind to toss frogs with it. I agree with FW it way over kill in the sensitivity dept for frogs, but its one hell of a bottom contact rod  

Mine is for bottom contact jigs, but could be used for frogs, but the tip is faster than I would prefer 

While primarily a jig and trig rod I’ve used my fmj for frogs without issue. A perfect pitch type rod in the USA destroyer line would be killer though...hint hint megabass

The Valdivia is pretty close in feel to the Perfect Pitch IMO.  It has a similar tip that can handle lighter baits than you might expect for an F7 rod.  It is 4" longer though, which can be good or bad compared to the Perfect Pitch depending on what you want to do with it.
