Help looking for new prop

Featured Replies

Im still new to the boating world and looking for a new prop to get more speed out of my boat. I have a 1988 150 Merc and right now I have a 4 blade 23 pitch prop on it. Like I said I want to get more top end speed out of my boat cause right now im hitting about 50mph any help would be appreciated or if anyone has any suggestions about which prop would work for what im looking for. Thanks in advance

You need to include the boat model and max rpm you a getting with that prop for any recommendations on an alternative.

A rig of that age probably already has the best performing prop.

I have a Lazer II 22P three blade or a Trophy three blade 23P or a lazer II 4 blade 22P for the identical boat and HP if anyone of the three will help. Also, a three blade 23P stainless name unknown, it has been to the prop shop and was originally a 22P. All hubs are in good shape.

Let me know. I own a 88 Starfire 175 and these have all been run on the boat. I will guarantee any of the above.

If you install a 6" - 12" jackplate (you didnt mention that you had one) you can raise the engine on the transom to reduce the drag. This also has an effect of increasing the engine RPM's, which will allow you to go to a Tempest 24P prop. You should be able to get 54-56 MPH.

Be carefull that you do not raise the motor to the point that you lose water PSI. It should be 12-15 psi minimum when fully trimmed out and while turning.

From my experience, I would just save my money and leave well enough alone.

If you really have a need for speed, sell it and buy a Allison boat.
