I lube my reels every January. They have been sitting in my garage during the Summer heat in Texas. Now, I’m getting ready for the fall. Does the heat affect the oil and grease? Should I lube them now, too? Thanks for any info.

I'd pop one open and see what it looks like. Id probably put a drop of oil on bearings and such. Wouldn't think the heat would affect a quality grease.  

@The Fisher, I really don’t believe there is a set time to do a little preventative maintenance on ones equipment, which includes rods, reels, and tackle. For some there is an “off season” where you can’t get on the water and that’s when a full tear down of your equipment is done.

 

I don’t think the heat will severely affect your reels which a few minutes and a couple drops of oil wouldn’t cure before this January. I’ll put a couple drops of oil on my spool bearings when changing line and I’m pleasantly surprised at the “new found” distance I get and the minimal effort it took when casting. 

I tear down my reels during winter but if I feel any gears at all before that I will open a reel up and ad 

some grease.

I doubt it because mine lay baking on the deck each outing in the extreme summer heat and I have always done only a clean and lube over Christmas/New Year holidays each year.
