Plastic pontoon boat repair?

Featured Replies

Hello all, I have a new to me plastic pontoon boat that has the front of a pontoon split. I have seen topics in the past recommending epoxy and marine goop for a kayak or pond prowler. I am wondering what you all would recommend for this boat. We are in South Florida so cold temps are not a concern.

Trying to upload photos, but the site is telling me the files are too big.

Your pontoon damage appears to fiberglass not plastic. I would look into fiberglass bow damage repair. Basically requires flipping the boat over and sanding off all the damages fiberglass and patching with fiberglass cloth and resin, then sanding smooth.

Using a Keel Guard on both pontoon front ends would protect from further damage when beaching the boat.

Tom, thank you for the reply. It's hard to find info on these, but from this photo it looks like it is ABS plastic.

Your basic ice chest or Hobie Cat construction.

3M White Marine Sealant or ABS plumbing cement should seal the pontoon, just be careful with cleaners that will not dissolve the polyurethane foam like acetone. Denatured alcohol should be OK.
