Vibe Shearwater 125

Featured Replies

Anybody see these? Looks like I sweet deal for a pedal kayak under 2k.

Yeah sweet deal of only $1,300 without the drive or with the drive $1,700 and still an awesome deal. There are many options with this kayak and it's awesome. I preordered mine for only $300 right now and they don't make you pay the rest until they release in mid March which is cool and give you time to save up. Anyone need info on the site I preordered mine from let me know. So excited and can't wait to try this kayak out. I got the Raven gray one.

I ordered one and expected delivery in early March. I've owned several kayaks and fish out of one 5-7 days a week when there's no ice covering the water. Each kayak I've owned has had a few aspects I liked, a few I didn't.

The Shearwater seems to combine what I like from each one and eliminated the things I didn't.  Especially when it comes to tournaments.

I already have a Bixby motor and will be putting it on the Shearwater.

I checked it out on the tube......unbelievable how Kayaks keep progressing, especially fishing, very nice.

Yeah I really like the layout on this boat. Seems like they took a lot thought into the placement of features. Can’t pre order but will checking reviews once they hit the market.

The four rod stagers on the sides, the open deck while still having a depth finder pod, the sleek bow and wider stern, the proximity of the rear well to the seat for easy access, four more flush rod mounts, Bixby ready........all are pluses.

I don't know if I'll ever add the pedal since I use the Bixby, and I don't know if I'll ever add the Versapod since there's a drawer under the seat are also potential addons.

For guys interested in adding a drive to the Shearwater 125, I would -seriously- consider just slapping a Hobie Mirage drive in it, be it of the v1, turbo, or 180 variety.

It'll accept all those options, and all are proven.

Why?

Pelican's Hydryve has been a piece of junk so far.  While I'd trust Vibe to put a serviceable hull on the market, as they have done time and time again, I would not trust them to get their own Mirage Drive right the first few times around.

I think Vibe’s take on the drive will be a good one. I think Pelican tried to hit an unrealistic price point

But the lack of reverse would be a dealbreaker for me. For just a couple hundred bucks more you can buy a Hobie 180 drive. That’s really not that bad, and that’s the road I’d take. My plan is to wait till the end of next season, pick up a used/demo Shearwater kayak only, and throw a Hobie drive in it.

Watched a couple of review videos from ICast. It does look well thought out and the price point is nice. Ive only owned a wider platform ( Nucanoe Frontier) so Im interested to see how stable it is in comparison. I really like the tackle storage just behind and to the sides of the seat.
