A couple of years ago I watched a lot of fishing vids in my process of learning to fish. 

 

I have never seen anybody else talk about this or do this so I figure I should share. Basically you are using a pull through to pull skirt material into the sinker. Obviously this can be trimmed, they don't have to look like mutant nose hairs. Once you get the technique down you can adjust the amount you use to create different levels of resistance from barely pegged to GI Joe with the kung fu grip. Best of all, if you do leave a little skirt, you can pull it out.  

Unless your leaving a bunch of extra hanging back to make it look like a punch skirt, it seems like a bobber stop would be way faster and easier to use. That’s all I use now for holding sinkers in place, and one little stop can be used for a LONG time, as you just slide it up the line out of the way if you need to cut and retie, then slide it and the sinker back in place. I got like 800 stops on amazon for like $4.00, so I have about 200 lifetime supplies of them ?.

Well to me this seems like a solution that's more work than the conventional way. While i.prefer the jumbo peg-it's to bobber stops either is gonna  be easier. Especially when you are using larger weights  (3/4-1oz.) Like I do I'd need probably 2 whole skirts to peg. This would probably be best for a slender mojo type weight. I akso dont understand the 'barely pegged' part, either you want the weight to slide or  you dont .

I just use rubber bands, basically free. I just save them from mail/packaging. I just keep a few in my terminal tackle box.

The skirt material may give a little different look to the fish though also another idea.

Yes sir, there you go. Rubber band, skirt material, same basic principal.

I was simply trying to point out that a single strand of skirt material is usually not enough to secure a heavier sinker. the more strands the stronger the hold. 

Gotta love more complicated solutions to non existent problems.

 

If you're stuck on the water with limited supplies tricks like these are good to know.

This why I love this website. Just checked Amazon, 1200 bobber stops for like 7 dollars. Thanks for the K.I.S.S. I needed it .

Cost of a peg/bobber stop - <1 cent each

 

Cost of half a skirt tab - .12 to .18 cents each

 

Now if you were rigging up a punch skirt style weight with an actual skirt on it, that makes a little more sense if you're going for a bulkier profile.
