VMC Bladed Treble Hooks

Featured Replies

Even though the reviews have said they aren't the most hardy product, I bought some VMC bladed treble hooks to add to some of my crankbaits.  My question is if it would be better to use them for the front hook or the rear hook?

My gut reaction is the front hook, so that much like red trebles, it draws the fish to strike at the middle of the bait (in theory).  What I was concerned about is with the blade in that position, would it be able to spin freely or would it get caught up against the body or in the rear hook.

I know the bait would run true with the bladed treble on the back hook, but my hunch is that would induce short strikes.

For those of you who have used these, what has your experience been?

Definitely the rear, it would stay hung and hit the body on a crank.

To me it does similar to what a feathered treble would do. And for what's it's worth I add feathers to some of my cranks to give the bait a little bit bigger profile.

Only thing I caution is adding "too much" to a lure that already has plenty of action. Like a sqaurebill beating structure- not really needed. But fishing a drop off with say a DT-10 in open water, then I could see adding it
