St Lawrence into Cananda, boat requirements

Featured Replies

Hey Guys,

I'm planning a trip on St Lawrence river near Clayton NY and I'm not completely sure what I need to fish in Canada.

Here is what I have figured out so far.

*   Passports for myself and my 14 year old son

*   outdoor card

*   Canada fishing license and NY

Boat requirements ?

Thanks

The only boat requirements Canada requires are the safety equipment & requirements issued by the state your boat is registered in. Canada does require a closed loop connection (carabiners or snap hooks) on your trailer chains to tow vehicle rather than just a S hook configuration.

You may be able to just buy a passport card if air travel is not in your future. I got the card for snowmobiling trips to Canada-it was cheaper than the passport. (Then a month later I was invited to Mexico for a wedding and I got the full passport anyway...)

What's an outdoor card?

Outdoors Card,

the wallet-sized plastic ID card you need to hunt or fish in Ontario.

As good as the advice of our members can be, you really should contact the Canadian government to be sure you are in compliance with all of their laws. I’m not 100% sure, but I think you must also have documentation from your sons mother that you are not taking a minor across the border without her consent.

Unaccompanied Minors

All minors crossing the border without two parents must travel with additional documentation. Children traveling without a parent or traveling with a single parent who does not have sole custody must be accompanied by a signed and notarized letter stating the absent parent's approval of the visit. The letter should also provide the current telephone number and address of the absent parent. In the event that a parent or guardian has sole legal custody of a child, paperwork stating such should also be presented to avoid delays.

Good point

thanks,

I have since learned , all we need is a passport as long as we don't anchor or set foot on land.

But I agree with you, I pan on calling to make sure we are covered.

Thanks All
