First rod built

Featured Replies

Last weekend I finished building my first rod. I wanted to thank everyone that helped me out, Spencer, Mick, Delaware Valley. I also wanted to thank Ajay and Lyman. Ajay, I don't know if your post about the hair dryer and warming up the epoxy was for my benefit, but it was certainly timely. Between that post and Lyman responding to my "concerns" and actually reading the instructions on the flex coat, that all made me realize I was worrying about nothing.

So there are no pictures. Kind of one of those things if I took a photo of the whole rod you would not see the details to do it justice. If I took some close up pictures of my guide wraps, you would see the fact that this was my first build- sloppy but functional.

So, some family sadness happened last week which left me with a unexpected week off. It was in the 50's most of the week. Monday and Tuesday were beautiful. Got out on the water on the kayak and fished the new rod. Did not catch any fish with it. Hooked into something on Monday, it seemed pretty decent, pulled my kayak around. I lost though, not sure why. It is a med lt finesse rod and was fishing a shakey head w/4 1/2" roboworm. Exposed hook even, weird, anyway I also hooked into some sizable submerged branches that were a good test for a first built rod.

So all in all a success. Not the prettiest girl at the ball but she can dance. Thanks again everyone and can't wait to do it again.

Congrats. What are the specs for the rod?

I wonder what you'll build next ?

What I built- Rainshadow RX-6 Sb822.5. 6'10" med x-fast. 6-14 lb line 1/8-5/8 lure weight. Basically a finesse rod.

What I want to build next- Looking at the Rainshadow Revelation REVC68H-SB. Want to build a shorter pitching/ heavy cover rod with a shorter handle. 12-25 lb line, 3/8-1 1/4 oz.

Not sure though. I was planning another post. I have a couple questions for the guys on this forum. Waiting for Father's day.

Wait until closing time.  All the girls get prettier at closing time.

So true. They get friendlier also. Funny how all that works.
