Dobyns Kaden rods, anyone got an opinion yet?

Featured Replies

I am not really in the market for one but was just curious if anyone had hit the water with one yet? Just curious to hear any feedback you may have.

I've had it out 3 times, but only for about 20 minutes each time due to weather and time. I was also using a different Daiwa reel each time and trying to get more of a feel for them than the rod. I have the 744c, and the first time I fished a football jig and I can't speak about the sensitivity because the bottom was soft. Last evening and earlier this evening I fished a 1/2 oz Chatterbait on it and you definitely could feel the blade vibrations pretty good.

I don't have enough time on the water with it yet, but I can tell you it's a pretty fast action rod. It's faster than the Fury and definitely faster than the Colt, Sierra, and Champion XP. There have been lots of feedback about it in the Dobyns Facebook Group with lots of pictures of some big fish caught on them. Everything has been positive, with the exception of a few people complaining about the reel seats flexing on their spinning reels, and most of that was solved when they changed reels.

I personally think they should have full handles, even though I'm probably more of a split grip guy. I found the 744c hard to cast one handed and had to use two hands which I have little experience at, but then again it could be I'm just not used to longer rods.

I would also like to see some kevlar wrapping added like all the other Dobyns rods have. It might add a little more weight, but I like my rods to look nice, or else I would have NRX's instead of Xtasy's.

I would buy a Champion XP over one, and if it was between a Sierra and a Kaden, I would choose a Sierra if I wanted a more versatile rod to throw some reaction baits and the Kaden rod for Jigs and T-Rigs.

I like both of mine so far. Had them out a couple three times and they have performed well.

I am happy with all three of mine so far, they are well built, but I would expect that from Dobyns.  Haven't had much time on the water with them, but they are very comfortable in the hand for sure.  As Kev above stated they are definitely faster in the tip than my Fury rods.

Waiting on open water here, but my 700SF balances very well with a 2500 sized reel. I was going to put a 1000 on it, but it's so good with the 2500 that I'm gonna leave it. Definitely seems like a fast taper which I'm looking forward to seeing in practice. It's my first Dobyns rod and so far I like it. We'll see what happens once I can start fishing it.
