I have a 36v 101# Minn Kota foot operated trolling motor on my Triton. The foot control has been very stiff the last couple of trips out.  It has always been a little tough when it is on 100%, but never on 40% until recently. What should I use to lube with.

The shaft appears to be straight to the naked eye. I may need to open both eyes and start there. Thanks

Replace the cable before it cost you a day on the water. Don't ask me how I know.

Good advice, fishfordollars, the added stress will result in failure.

Check the cable route to make sure it is supported were it should be.

I made the switch to a hand operated Minn-Kota years ago due to cable problems. Foot models could never be cheap enough to make me go back. Free ain't cheap enough either.

Two things that will never be on my boat: Motorguide, or anything with a foot pedal.

Pretty sure there is a cable adjustment screw or something like that.  I would start there and maybe a way to lube it also.  Check your users manual.

Yes, there should be a tension screw, that's where I would start.

If that does not loosen up the pedal, I would closely examine the shaft. A slightly bent shaft could cause what you describe.

If all still appears well, it may be time for a new cable.

Is it stiff under power, or just 1 direction.

Complete cable replace is a bi..........tch and I would take it to buddy the repair guy.

Check the bearing on the outer shaft top and bottom.

Do you hear a grinding sound when you step on the foot control? I had to make a repair on mine last year because of a bent shaft. I had to rebend and straghten the lower shaft, totally replace the upper shaft and the pinion gear. Open her up and check that pinion gear, its made out of a soft metal maybe a tooth or two are missing.

i have the oppisite problem lol. mine wont stay in a straight line when you put it on constant..hmmm

It's a Minn Kota: composite shaft, not metal, so bent isn't the answer. Tension adjustment could be an issue. Cable could be an issue.
