Hey guys, just got a 02 Skeeter and the original owner did not cover it up ever so the gel coat is obviously faded. What is best, most productive way of trying to restore the gel coat to make it look a little better? I heard I could try and buff it out, but how would I go about doing that?

The 2 methods I'm most familiar with are:

Pickup a low speed orbiting polisher. Harbor Freight used to sell one that went for around $30-40. I see they don't anymore. It would run well under 1000rpm. Start with rubbing compound, then move to polishing compound and finally finish up with a good wax like MacGuiers Helmsman.

You can also do this by hand if you don't want to invest in the polisher.  Prepare for blood, sweat and tears.  

The other is the tried and true wet sand method using very fine grits available at auto parts stores for auto body refinishing.

Start with around 800-1000 grit and move up. Finish with a polishing compound and then wax. Keep the paper wet with water and a slight addition of a dish washing detergent.

OR you can take it to a shop and for about $300 they will buff it out for you.

It worked great for me. When you get it buffed just like you want it. Go get you some BTS and use that everytime you pull the boat out of the water before you leave. Its great!!!!
