Trim Tab

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I just bought a used BT 165 pro. It has a 40 hp Merc on it with T & T. I haven't even got to put in the water yet, but this morning I was checking it out and noticed the trim tab is GONE. Only thing left is the base that bolts to the lower unit. The guy I bought it from never mentioned it and actually said the boat drives great. Is this a problem I need to fix ASAP or can I still run the boat til I can get another tab to put on it? Thanks for any help.

Are you talking about the torque tab located above the prop?

If the tab is missing you fight the prop torque wanting to turn boat.

Trust me everything fine.....I would have the engine inspected if the owner gave you that line of BS.

I assume this will be worse at higher speeds?  Thanks for your help.

The engine torques more when transitioning onto a plane, about 20 mph.

Any boat shop that is a dealer for your engine make will have the parts needed to replace the tab,

My concern is how your engine was maintained, water pump changed when needed, prop removed and fishing line cleaned off the prop shaft to prevent seals from being damaged and leaking. The condition of the prop, bent, nicked etc. The previous owner can't be trusted IMO.
