new LUND

Featured Replies

I was just checking out Lund's web site, and they have new for 2009 a 20+footer, 250hp tiller model. Yes, I said tiller. 250hp Merc optimax tiller. can you say wide open boat to. sorry, I have to go now and lift some weights just thing about 250hp tiller makes my arms hurt.

I am having trouble trying to imagine driving this boat.

Wow...I've driven a 15hp 4 stroke and those have torque compared to the 2 stroke 15hp that I have.  I would hate to see the power steering or friction control go out on one of those 250's!

and I thought 150hp tiller Yamahas were too much for one person to handle, but a 250!  I'm sorry, but that is just a bad idea and a accident waiting to happen.

To me... if conditions or lake or boat or whatever warrant you to use a tiller in the first place you have no business with anything that huge. If you think you need a 250 hp tiller I dont see why you wouldnt put that on a console / wheel in the first place. 250 is alot to be respected even with a wheel.  Seems a little crazy to me  ;)

I remember seeing something on Linder's Edge about that.  They steered it with two fingers.  Merc designed some new technology that allows the big motors to be easy to steer.  (this was a while ago, so I'm not positive if it was that model or not)  They liked it for trolling.

I think I saw that too.  I thought it was crazy to have tiller steer that big.

On their web site, it has a video on the power steering and it turn easy, but the fact of holding on to a 250hp tiller is still out of this world

It is a little scary holding on to that much horsepower. :-[
