  1. is it in the same area as the publix on griffen and university? If so I have been there tons and never realized it was there!
  2. It idles slowly, almost borderline stalling during the summer, a little faster when it is cool. I suppose I could bump up the idle a bit. You could change the idle screw, but you would have to change all carbs (4 or 2 on that motor?) the same amount. You can mark them before you try it, that way you can change them back if you screw up. Or take it to the shop if it bothers you. My 1988 48 hp johnson does the same thing, I just drive it with some (full) throttle and try not to idle around, it can get interesting at crowded ramps. Mine only seems to die when idling in gear though. Who knows!
  3. I agree with what is said above, if it isnt fully broken dont mess it up. My earilier question was to try and figure out if something had gotten into the idle jet in your carb which could be causing it not to idle good. I have only taken apart simple carb (single cylinder dirt bikes and small HP outboards). Just taking a stab in the dark really, sorry I cant be of more help.
  4. Does the motor idle good once started?
  5. I agree with this, except for one thing. I would suggest more like 12-15 loop through with the braid, of course this depends on the size of the braid (30 lb braid= 8 lb mono). JMHO
  6. ]LOL! I didn't think anyone would say this but I do the same thing! Go out in the boat for a week strait and you will think you are pulling a boat all the time!
  7. If the stringers are good I would put a layer or two of fiberglass over them before moving on with your project. Looks like a good platform now you get to do what you want with it!! Keep updating the post!
  8. I say go ahead and use it for what you want! Using a 5hp wont put much stress on the boat. Be careful with a heavy load, or jumping/ dropping heavy stuff on the floor and you should be fine. The best way that I have found to get the foam out is a paint scraper and a pruning saw (cuts the foam easily). Cut into squares and then scrape from the bottom, the foam should pop up in little squares. Good luck
  9. I would hope there is some space under the floor that...probably why it has a flat floor. I would start buy cutting a small hole in the floor either manually or vary carefully. After you do that post some pictures, hopefully you will be able to remove the rest of the floor. In my experiece anything that is not (and sometimes things that are) coated in fiberglass will rot eventually.
  10. I hate to say this to you but the wood is almost certainly not salvageable and you would probably do better by ripping it out and getting a look at whats underneath. Then decide on how high you want your deck, looks like two options to me: Build a new subframe (you will probably need to do this anyways) or lay new plywood on the edge that already exist. Good luck on what you decide! Forgot to ask but what kind of motor are you planning on running (tiller?)
  11. http://www.netknots.com/html/albright_special.html Albright Knot! I have used the blood, double uni and now exculuivly the albright knot...it was shown to be by an offshore fisherman who fished vertical jigs (5-10 oz in 120 to 200 fsw). You might do it wrong a few times so make sure you practice and test the knot strength. I currently use it with 20 pound power pro and 20 pound flouro leader. Im yet to break this knot but I have bent some hooks!
  12. Make sure you retire the lure, it looks really cool hanging in the fishes mouth once it is stuffed! Great fish!!
  13. If I could do it over again I would use Nida-Core http://www.nidacore.com/spanish/nidaprod_honeyinfo_rigid.htm It is readily availible here in florida, not sure about where you are. It can also be had for just a bit more than wood!! I had a friend redo his flats boat with it and it came out much lighter and WILL NOT ROT! EVER!! Good luck with whatever you choose, and keep the post updated with pics and your story! Bad news!! After doing some research, it will cost you a pretty penny to add this to your boat! Its not nearly that expensive to get it down here. Maybe you can find it locally!? http://boatbuildercentral.com/products.php?cat=30 http://www.fgci.com/ go to catalog->coring->Honeycomb->pick density and thickness
  14. The real question is how much you expect it would cost you? i.e. how much you would charge him to paint the area? Then again who cares, that would be a huge step up boat wise!!
  15. There are two things that I would be worried about 1.How far you plan on towing the boat and 2. the weight of the boat. If you went with say a 14 ft. jon (maybe a fiberglass) you wont have a problem. I would look into getting a transmission cooler for your car...heat+transmission=expensive repairs!!! just my .02 I tow a 16 ft fiberglass with a 4cyl ford ranger/5spd manual trans, just dont use overdrive!
  16. X3 on the Zara puppy caught this gal on one!!
  17. Interesting question...favorite marked!!!
  18. Haha maybe it was the whole out of water thing, they don't usually like that! lol
  19. Thanks for the replies everybody, the fish just sucked the lure right off the surface. As for the picture they came off the cell phone, thats why they are kinda dark and blury, plus it was getting dark. Tallydude unfortunately I just graduated and will only be in tallahassee for 1 more week maybe we can meet up in that amount of time, i'm pretty busy getting everything wraped up to go home.
  20. Ever since I joined this forum I have been wanting to add my big fish outing here! Now I have done it! Not a huge fish but I would estimate it around 5-6 (the scale was in the truck of course). I caught it on a Heddon zara puppy!! http://s196.photobucket.com/albums/aa230/andrewstrey/?action=view&current=sanlouis2.jpg click the link for bigger pics, I cant make the forum post the larger size for some reason :-/
  21. Looks great with the polish!! Brought it back to life! did you put wax back on after you hit it with the rubbing compund?
  22. Just bought a schumacher last night, got rid of my black and decker (I got it for free and it worked for 1.5 years) but it just started doing funny things and it was time to repalce it. I got the schumacher ship-n-shore from walmart for 50 bones!
  23. How did your trip end up going? Tarpon, bass?
  24. Its a lot easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission I would have moved it very carefully then been on my way!
