Best diameter blank for a skipping rod?

Featured Replies

I am looking at getting a rod custom built for me to mostly skip but also pitch jigs and worms with...typically using 3/8 oz and not heavier than a 1/2 half oz.

I want a rod that fits me.  I am 5’7”.   Would I be better off with a casting type rod blank or something heavier/thicker like a pitching rod blank?

I’m working on a setup for you. You’re going to need something with a tip that loads to get the speed to skip distance. You can pitch with the same rod as again you want it to load arc least to some point. Do you use a roll cast or side arm?  In most cases height doesn’t limit the rod you can use. I was leaning toward something 6’8-10. Check your email

Thanks!  And will do.  Prob more of a roll caster.  The one big difference I notice with my pitching rod is the handle is long than I’d like for skipping.
