Pelican Bass Raider Reassembly

Featured Replies

New angler from Chesapeake, Va here. Bought a USED pelican bass boat and have realized the foam is saturated. Was able to acquire modified replacement foam and am in the process of reassembling the boat.

Does anyone know the adhesive and/or sealant that is used to adhere the top and bottom pieces of the pelican bass raider back together? The same adhesive/sealant is used inside the black gasket strip the seals around the two parts at the seam. Then they are riveted back together.

I have done much research on this and most folks recommend 3M 5200 marine adhesive sealant.  I just would like to try and match the original substance if possible because it is extremely sticky yet flexible. Almost remind me of the material inside car door panels that hold the plastic onto the metal.

I was under the impression 5200 cures into a permanent repair.  I use the 4000 or 4200, as it seals but not a hard cure.  I like to be able to get it back apart, whatever 'it' might be.

I am in the middle of a Pelican Predator / trailer redo.  I'm doing a front deck addition, too.  All new hardware, bedded in 4000. Sealed but not permanent.    I'm also redoing a Boston Whaler 16. But that's a different bird.

There is a good video series by a boat repair guy, I'll try and find it. (I'm thinking Boat Works?).  He had the best  explanation for the proper use of each of the 3M products.

Yes, it's called Boat Works Today on YouTube.  Find the video on sealants and you will do it confidently. Good luck.

Newjewsie, On disassembling the pelican raider, what technique did you use to remove the staples without damaging the boat? I am about to try this same thing.

Thanks

I'm looking at opening my bass raider up a d adding additional foam as well as finding ways to strengthen the bow and transom to reduce flex.

I was wondering the same as Rhinoshade on how to get the staples out without damaging the hull.  I'm thinking of just carefully unbending then and possibly cutting them so they're easier to work with.

How hard is it to remove the staples and reassemble? Anybody figure this out yet?
